Welcome to History Matters!

Welcome to the HistoryMatters blog. My company name has two meanings. It refers to a deeply held belief that the study of the past makes a difference and exerts an influence on both the present and the future. I am qualified as an architectural historian and enjoy the tangible evidence of the past in historic buildings, but I consider myself, first and foremost, an historian. Historians are privileged to be both story collectors and story tellers. I welcome the challenge of making the past relevant to the widest possible audience, convincing them that history matters. The company moniker also explains the type of projects on which I work—a wide variety of history matters: historic context documents; historical & architectural surveys; nominations to the National Register of Historic Place, the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties, and various local landmark programs; historic preservation grant writing; and teaching/ public presentations.

In future postings I will be sharing a wide variety of history matters—excerpts from work in progress, photographs of interesting properties, musings on important architects, updates on completed projects, and other relevant offerings. Please return to this page often to see the most recent postings.
